Why an evidence checklist comes before outreach

A client sent us twelve screenshots and no case number. Another sent a sealing order and the wrong Trellis URL. Both wasted a week. Evidence order matters more than enthusiasm.

This Trellis Law evidence checklist is the intake package we want before process talk or pricing talk. It also matches what Trellis’s own redaction flow asks for when a sealing order exists: the specific URL plus documentation.

Gather the package even if you plan to DIY the first Trellis filing. Wrong URL plus missing order is still a failed free request.

If you only need to press Request Redaction with a sealing order you already hold, use Trellis’s free form. This checklist still helps you avoid filing the wrong URL or skipping the order upload.

The core package every Trellis case needs

Ranking URLs come first. Without the exact trellis.law page, every later step is guesswork. Search your name and brand variants. Save each URL.

SERP screenshots prove the commercial surface of the problem. Diligence teams usually react to Google, not to a logged-in legal research view. Capture device and query.

Case identifiers and stamped dispositions turn a complaint into a verifiable brief. “This is hurting my business” is not evidence. A stamped dismissal is.

Identity proof closes near-match disputes. Same surname and same county have produced some of the ugliest false-positive rankings we have cleaned up. Bring more than a statement that “this is not me.”

If you cannot get a stamped PDF yet, say what you can get and by when. Silence on documents reads like there are none.

Sealing and expungement documents

If you hold a court sealing order, it belongs in the package immediately. Trellis’s published guidance treats sealing uploads as the path for permanent deletion rather than courtesy redaction alone.

If sealing is still pending, say so. Do not file as if the order already exists. Incomplete sealing claims create conflicting narratives and stall later work.

Expungement or restricted-access orders follow the same rule: stamped court proof first, downstream display requests second.

Counsel questions about how to obtain a sealing order belong with the filing court and local rules. This checklist only covers what to attach once the order exists.

Weak packages we see every week

Screenshots only. No case number. No disposition PDF. That package supports a conversation, not a filing.

A long personal rebuttal drafted for Google or LinkedIn. Publishing richer allegation detail can make suppression harder.

One email asking Trellis Support to “remove everything under my name” without using the on-page Request Redaction control. Trellis says email requests are not processed.

We rebuilt one engagement after a prior vendor submitted three conflicting stories in one week and never attached the sealing order the client already had. The documents were available. The package discipline was not.

How to organize the files

Use clear filenames: case-number-disposition.pdf, sealing-order.pdf, serp-desktop-fullname.png. Reviewers move faster when the folder reads like a brief.

Keep one note with query list, URL list and what outcome you want: correction, redaction with sealing, search follow-through or suppression. That note prevents scope fog on sales calls.

One opinion clients dislike: if you will not gather court documents, you are not ready for a serious source-correction quote. Search and suppression can still be discussed. Correction without PDFs usually cannot.
